Anne Julia Shemonski, August 19, 1922 – January 6, 2020, passed away peacefully in the hospice unit at The Palms retirement community in Sebring, FL. She is survived by her daughters, Joan Shemonski Miller of Maryland Line, MD and Audrey Shemonski Cordaro of South Hutchinson Island, FL and her daughter-in-law Peggy Zitnyar Shemonski of Lewes, Delaware. Her son, Anthony, preceded her in death in 2003 and her husband, Anthony Shemonski in 2006. In addition to her husband and son, Anthony, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Pawluk Tuday and a brother, John Pawluk. She had 9 grandchildren, Reese Miller, Tara Miller Westra, Aaron Miller, Jennifer Cummings Newmeyer, Michael Shemonski, Daniel Shemonski, Nathan Shemonski, Alex Shemonski, and Greg Shemonski; 10 great-grandchildren, Thomas Miller, Marisa Miller, Zachary Westra, Victoria Westra, Gabriel Westra, Gavin Westra, Audra Newmeyer, Lillian Newmeyer, Kye Miller, and Luca Shemonski. Anne was born in Kings Park, Long Island, NY to parents Sophie and Michael Pawluk who came from Austria, through Ellis Island, then married and became tenant farmers. She began her education in Long Island and received her high school diploma in New York City, and subsequent college credit in Maryland. She married Anthony Shemonski in April 21, 1942. They lived briefly in Philadelphia, then New York City until 1952 when they moved to East Northport, Long Island, NY. In 1955 they moved to a 200 acre farm in Maryland Line, MD where they lived until Anne retired from Verizon. They built a retirement home near the farm and summered there and wintered in Buttonwood Bay, Sebring, FL. Anne continued this pattern until 2018 when she lived in Buttonwood fulltime until she moved to the Palms in May of 2019.
A memorial service will be held on June 7, 2020 at the Maryland Line United Methodist Church in Maryland Line, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
