Anita Miller

March 16, 1941 — December 4, 2010

Anita Miller, 69, of Avon Park died on the evening of December 4, 2010 surrounded by her husband, her son, and friends at Florida Hospital in Sebring, Florida. She was born in Offenburg, Germany on March 16, 1941 to Karl and Anna Marie Mueller. After the war, she moved with her family to Wurzburg, Germany. It was in this city as a teenager that she met Charles Miller, an American soldier. They married on December 17, 1960 and came to the United States in 1961. Her husband remained in the military and during his first tour of duty in Vietnam; she lived in Avon Park where their son, Chuck, was born. He presently owns Auto Tech, an automotive repair shop located next to Miller Energetics, a solar energy business owned by his father Charles, a retired Army Special Forces officer. Anita traveled widely as an army wife and saw much of the world. She served as a Red Cross volunteer occasionally and experienced the value of helping people in need. Upon her return to civilian life in Avon Park in 1978, she began a career in helping people in need, especially the elderly. More recently, she worked as a secretary in her husbands business. She had a love for animals and rescued a number of dogs that needed humane treatment. She supported the Humane Society of the United States in its efforts to bring about humane treatment of animals. Anita is best remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness with others and would always put the welfare of others at the top. She is survived by her husband, Charles, her son Chuck, and her sister, Ilse in Germany. A memorial mass will be held for her at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Avon Park at 9:30 a.m. on December 13, 2010. A short gathering will be held in the church community hall thereafter. After cremation, her ashes will be spread on the mountain by her cabin in North Carolina, a place of nature that she loved dearly. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of Highlands County in her memory. Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home Avon Park stephensonnelsonfh.com
