Andrea Gail Brown

Andrea Gail Brown, age 60, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in Avon Park, Florida.  She was born November 25, 1963 in Wauchula, Florida to Horace D. Autry and Anita Gail Wilson.  Andrea had been a lifelong resident of Hardee and Highlands County and a member of First Baptist Church Avon Park.  She retired from the Highlands County School Board after over 30 years of teaching at Hardee Senior High School and Avon Park High School.  Following retirement, she served as the Library Director at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida.  Andrea enjoyed spending time with friends on the beach at Little Gasparilla Island, being on the water at her home on Lake Denton, and reading a good book.  She was known as a courageous and kindhearted individual who never wavered from her focus on living a life of dignity and grace.  Andrea touched many lives throughout her career in education and in her personal life.  She was always a source of inspiration, encouragement, and love, and her legacy will continue to be a positive force in her community.  Andrea is survived by her Husband – Kevin Brown of Avon Park, FL; Daughter – Taylor Swoyer (Colt) of Gainesville, FL; Son – Joshua Brown of Tallahassee, FL; Mother – Gail Maddox of Sebring, FL; Father – Donnie Autry of Wauchula, FL; Brothers – Alan Autry (Kimberly) of Tallahassee, FL; Artie Autry of Avon Park, FL; Stepsister – Alecia Hughes (Damon) of Zolfo Springs, FL; Grandson – Carter Swoyer; A number of nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 am.  Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
