Althea C. Smith passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in Sebring, Florida at the age of 86. The daughter of Stanley L. and Helena Elizabeth (Shlagor) Hattis. She was born on April 26, 1937 in Alma, Michigan. On October 6, 1956 she married Charles (Ray) Smith in Vicksburg, Michigan. After raising their family, Ray and Althea loved to travel the US and went to all but Alaska and Hawaii. They enjoyed camping and various building projects. Althea worked as a secretary in the medical industry, was of Christian faith, and has been a resident of Sebring since 1994, having come from Baldwin, Michigan. Her hobbies included baking, gardening, and crochet. She loved to read her Bible and watch NCIS on TV. She is survived by her loving daughters – Allana Slager, Jan Williams, Bobbi McVicker (Drew); brothers – Stan Hattis (Wanda); Larry Hattis (Ruth); sister-Esther Reed. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving family members and dear friends. She was proceeded in death by her husband Ray in January, 2011, her parents, brothers – Ron and Jerry Hattis; sister – Janice Applebey; 2 grandchildren – Hannah Williams and Brandon McVicker. A graveside burial will take place July 6, 2024 at 10:30 AM in Bachelor Cemetery, Fountain, Michigan.
