Alpha Dean Hawk, age 89, died in Sebring, Florida on May 27, 2022. Dean was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Hawk and Oliver “Shorty” Gilliam. Dean and Paul traveled around the county in an RV, making many friends and catching fish in 49 states. Dean lived most of her life in Maryland Heights, MO and lived the past 13 years in Sebring, FL. Dean worked at grocery stores, Velvette Freeze ice cream parlor, and was a trailblazer Eranings Record.
Dean worked at the Maryland Heights IGA grocery store, a Velvet Freeze ice cream parlor, and was a trailblazer in the 1990’s, driving a forklift truck at Hussman Refrigeration, to the displeasure of most of the male workers, who did not believe a woman should be allowed to do that job, especially since she did it better than they did. Dean loved to fish and hunt.
Dean was the youngest and last remaining sibling, preceded in dead by Elmer Hogg (Velma), Thomas Hogg (Eva), Lloyd Hogg (Betty), Evelyn Price (Jason) and Irene Albright (Chet).
Dean is survived by her nieces and nephews Millie Juenger (Mick), Donna Briner (Bill), Carol Almond, Leon Price, Paul Dean Price, Mike Price (Pat), Walter Price (Sherry), J.D. Hogan (Stevie), Lowell Hogg, Linda Jost, Jeannie Peterson, Pattie Hogg, Kimberly Hogg and Larry Albright, Paul Hawk’s sister Bonnie Province and his children Kevin, Bobby and Anna.
Among her many friends at The Palms of Sebring, Ron Mackey was always there for her.
She will be greatly missed.
Her remains will be buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery, St. Louis County, Missouri beside those of Shorty Gilliam, her Mother Ruth Starnes, her Father Harry Starnes, Paul Hawk and her beloved dog Baby.
