Alice Pauline Larkin

April 9, 1935 — November 28, 2020

Alice Pauline (Hills) Larkin, age 85, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2020. She was the daughter of Allen A. and Pauline S. (Adler) Hills. Mrs. Larkin lived in Lake Placid for the past five years but was a life-long resident of New York State prior to relocating to Florida. She was born in New York City in 1935 and was the oldest of seven children. As a young child Mrs. Larkin lived on a river barge, living with her parents as they hauled freight on the Erie Canal. As a young woman, she was an accomplished singer. Mrs. Larkin trained as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Nursing School in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the mid 1950s. She subsequently had a long and distinguished career as an R.N. Mrs. Larkin and her husband Brian were the parents of five children and raised them in upstate New York. She loved nature, drawing, painting and poetry. She enjoyed drawing and painting right up to the time of her death and could recite poems of Whitman, Frost and Dickinson from memory. Mrs. Larkin was a wonderful cook and happily shared her family recipes with her family. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Larkin is survived by three sons: Daniel Larkin (Michelle); Saratoga Springs, NY; Ruane Larkin (Mary), Sebring FL; and Shannon Larkin (Dawne), Portland, ME; sister Carol (Robert) Ruckle, Murphreesboro, VA; brother Allen Hills Jr. (Patty), Malta, NY; sister Virginia (Spencer) LaMountain, Colonie, NY;, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews She was predeceased by her daughter Katie Larkin-Martinez, son Shane Larkin, brother Lawrence Hills, and sisters Rachael (Hills) White and Linda Hills. Private services will be held at a later date in upstate New York. Donations in her memory may be made to the National Audubon Society.
