Alice Voorhis Hansen

December 20, 1925 — February 8, 2025

Alice went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2025 at the age of 99. She was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on December 20, 192S and was the first child born to Jerry and Louise Voorhis. She had two brothers, Chuck was born in 1931 and Jerry born in 1938, both are deceased.

When Alice was a young child her parents moved to Pasadena, California where she spent her childhood and where she attended grammar school.  In 1936, her father was elected as a United States Congressman representing Los Angeles County and continued in office for ten years. During that time Alice and her brother, Chuck, attended St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia and then she returned to  California to attend high school the Girls Collegiate Boarding School. She went to Stephens College in Missouri  for two years and then returned to her parent’s home in Alexandria. World War II was still on and Washington DC was very active with the Congress and Senate in session year round. While in DC Alice enrolled in the Abbot Art School which sparked her love of art and her desire to continue in that field. In 1945, Alice went on to finish her college education at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida with a major in commercial art and design.

After World War II was over many service men were returning to college and that is where Alice met her future husband, Don Hansen. They were married in 1947 in the Rollins College chapel. Don and Alice settled in Sebring where they raised 5 children, Donnie 1948, Becky1950, Corinne 1951, Charlie 1954 and Dennis 1961.

In 1966, Alice began working as a social worker and supervisor for the Department of Public Welfare for 13 years before going to work as a counselor at the Alcohol Rehabilitation Center for 7 years.

Alice never lost her desire to be a full-time artist and after  retirement she was able to release her true passion for art. She primarily used oil paint but transition to water colors and that is where she blossomed. She became a well know watercolor artist in Florida and was a signature member of the Florida Watercolor Society. She was also a juried member of the Alabama Watercolor Society and the Highlands County Art League and received many recognitions and awards for her accomplishments as an artist. Her art work appears in many corporate, public and private collections throughout Florida. A dear friend said, “Heaven is much more colorful now that Alice is there.

Alice was a devoted wife to her husband of 63 years. They were both very active throughout their life together. They enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alice was a devout member of the Bible Fellowship Church where she attended weekly bible studies and many other church gatherings throughout her 35 years as a member. She truly loved her church family.  She was a long time member of the Sebring Readers Club and several bridge clubs.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Becky Travers (Dave), of Sebring, and  Corinne Capps, Summerville, SC; her sons, Donnie Hansen of Sebring, Charlie Hansen (Pam) of  Avon Park, Dennis Hansen(Elizabeth) of Bradenton; 9 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Don, parents Jerry Louise Voorhis and brothers, chuck and Jerry Voorhis and Jerry Voorhis.

A memorial service will be held at Bible Fellowship Church on Friday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. Alice requested that donations be made to Bible Fellowship Church,3750 Hammock Rd., Sebring, FL 33872.
