Alfred W. Roepstorff

February 28, 1929 — January 19, 2018

Alfred W. Roepstorff (Al) peacefully passed away on January 19, 2018 and was welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Al was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 28, 1929 and was raised in the small town of Knox, Indiana.  He is predeceased in death by his parents, Fredrick W. and Marie Roepstorff, his loving wife of 64 years Delores and his oldest son, Marty.  After attending nearby Valparaiso University, Al moved back to Knox where he began his banking career, married his wife Delores and started their family.  Al was an avid outdoorsman. He loved duck hunting and being on the water.  On weekends, the family spent their time at the family-owned cottage on Bass Lake in Starke County, Indiana. It was on Bass Lake that Al loved to sail and took turns with his friends being lifeguard at the nearby public beach.  In 1962, Al moved his family to Sebring, Florida where he was instrumental in opening the First National Bank of Sebring.  Then, in 1969 Al moved his family again to Marco Island, Florida, where he successfully chartered and ran the very first island bank appropriately named the First Bank of Marco Island.  On Marco Island, Al developed many friendships and enjoyed boating from his home to several places such as the Bahamas and Exuma Islands, always with his first mate Delores by his side.  Leaving Marco Island in the early 80’s, Al and Delores moved to Sanibel Island where he was Chairman and CEO of First Independence Bank.  In 1997 Al retired from banking and he and Delores moved to Lake Placid, Florida, then back to Sebring, where their Florida adventure began.  One of the many things Al was proud of was his appointment to the Federal Reserve Board in 1978 where he was the representative for Southwest Florida.  Al enjoyed life, family and being around his friends the most.  Al is survived by his three remaining children, Alandee (David), Geoffrey (Robbie) and Santford (Renee).  Additionally, Al is survived by three grandchildren, Damon Delp, Dorian Delp (Carol) and Matthew Roepstorff along with four great grandchildren.  The family would like to thank Pastor Jon Zehnder and the Saint Michael Lutheran Congregation, Fort Myers, for their prayers and family support, and would like to especially thank Pastor Rob Maulella and the elders of Faith Lutheran Church, Sebring, for their faithful visits and prayers.
