Alfonso J. Johnson, age 87, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in Sebring, Florida. He was born on September 24, 1928, the eldest of twelve children born to Herbert and Hilda (Plummer) Johnson. He migrated to the United States from Havana, Cuba in 1954. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Alfonso was a correctional officer with the Dade County Jail System. He moved to Sebring in 1996. Photography was a hobby of his and he was a member of the Teaneck Camera Club in Teaneck, New Jersey. Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Johnson, son, Antonio and his wife, Jodi, grandchildren, Zenaida and Zephaniah Peterson, Sydney and Lucas Johnson, and Morgan and Gabriel Johnson, brothers, Clemente and his wife, Beverly Johnson, Robbie Johnson, sisters-in-law, Alvonia Johnson, Violet Farrington and her four daughters, Dianne, Sylvia, Brenda and Caridad, . Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Johnson, daughter, Annette Marianne Johnson and brother-in-law, Jeremiah Farrington. There will be a funeral service on Friday, April 1, 2016, 10:00 a.m., at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place following the service at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
