Albert Harreld Griffin, 96, passed peacefully and returned to his Creator on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, in Sebring, Florida. Albert was a devoted and loving husband of Martha B. (Bertram) Griffin and the proud father of Kimberly Anne Griffin, Albert Kirby Griffin, and Michele Lynn Griffin.
Albert, born on March 21, 1928, in Hawesville, Kentucky, to the late Albert Lamar Griffin and Eva Mae (Richards) Griffin, was a star athlete in high school and a proud alumnus of Western Kentucky University, where he received an athletic scholarship. His talent also led him to play semi-professional baseball for the Boston Braves farm club, a testament to his skill as an athlete.
After graduating from Western Kentucky, Albert worked in the Tri-State Area, including manufacturing fighter jets, sales manager, teacher, and football coach. He worked with Parke-Davis in the pharmaceutical industry and became a Key Account Manager with Pfizer until his retirement in 1997.
Albert met his future spouse, Martha Belle Bertram, in Owensboro, Kentucky. They were married on June 25, 1961, in Martha’s hometown of Etoile, Kentucky. The couple moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where they lived until retirement.
Albert's love and enjoyment of golf was a big part of his life. Despite starting at 27, he quickly mastered the sport, earning the support of others to compete on the PGA Tour. However, he chose a life with Martha over a professional golfing career, which spoke volumes about his values and priorities. His love for the sport remained strong, and he continued to play, achieving a significant milestone by shooting his age at 66.
Albert was a sports enthusiast, a successful professional, and a dedicated community member. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite, reflecting his commitment to these organizations. His service and dedication were also recognized when he was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Albert was preceded in death by their daughter Kimberly Anne Griffin and his brother Bill Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Martha; two children, Kirby (Beth) of Woodstock, Georgia; Michele of Sebring, Florida; one grandchild, Hannah; and his sister Patricia Fisher of Evansville, Indiana.
